Displaying Confidence in your Special Needs Child
http://special-ism.com/displaying-confidence-in-your-special-needs-child/
It's an article about learning to let go and stopping yourself from reducing your child's hurdles simply because you, don't feel that they will be able to compete. Sometimes you have to trust your children and let them fail ... or succeed.

I hope more parents of special needs children understand and know when to let go sometimes...

I try to create a mix of understanding with high expectations for my kids. My son was diagnosed young at 2, but my daughter not until very recently at 7. Not knowing of her Aspergers status means we haven't treated her differently. In some ways I think that has served her well as the bar of expectation has never been lowered for her. And the fact that she has managed to get by all this time without us knowing means there's no need to reduce our confidence in her ability.
